Respite Program
Black Mountain Neuro-Medical Treatment Center’s Alzheimer’s Respite Program provides temporary relief to families who are experiencing the intense pressure of constant caregiving responsibilities. Also known as Greenwood Inn, this six-bed program offers round the clock care by Certified Nurse Aides who are supervised and supported by professional staff of the Center. Families who utilize this service consistently report that Greenwood Inn enables them to postpone or altogether avoid nursing home placement of their loved one with Alzheimer’s Disease. The program serves individuals from across North Carolina.

General Information
- Each guest can stay at the Greenwood Inn for up to 30 days per year, in increments convenient to the caregiver.
- The first visit will be considered a trial visit, and will be scheduled between Monday and Friday for two nights only.
- Guests must be medically and behaviorally stable. Some examples of medical conditions which would make a guest inappropriate: vomiting, diarrhea, blood in urine, fever and inability to bear weight.
- Guests can be admitted to the Greenwood Inn on weekdays only, although the visits may be extended over the weekend. Guests will not be admitted for a first time visit on a Friday. No admissions can take place on weekends or holidays.
- The caregiver must bring enough medicine to last the entire visit, with a few to spare. Medications must be in the original prescription or nonprescription bottles and the labels must accurately describe how the medication is to be given.

The Black Mountain Center Alzheimer’s Respite Program is supported by the Black Mountain Center Foundation, Inc. A 501(c)(3) tax exempt corporation, the Foundation was established to generate financial resources to improve the quality of life for Center residents and to enhance the skills and performance of staff on behalf of residents, including those who have been discharged and currently reside in community settings. There are no paid staff and the resources of the Foundation are applied directly to its mission to benefit the residents and the statewide community served by Black Mountain Neuro-Medical Treatment Center.
